Brushing Up on Dental Care Basics
By now, we all know the basics of dental care and we have a routine down pat. But have you ever stopped to consider if you are doing everything right? Our Chicago dentist is here to help you review important tips so that your oral care routine is effective and that your gums and teeth are as healthy as possible! Keep these tips in mind.
Use the Right Equipment
Did you know that there are many different types of toothbrushes that are available? From electric to soft to hard, you’ll want to make sure that you pick the right type of toothbrush for you. It should also fit your mouth comfortably; not too big and not too small.
Good Technique is Key
It is ideal to hold your toothbrush at an angle to that it brushes against your gums and your teeth the right way. Aim your bristles to where your teeth meet your gums and use circular motions with your hand. Don’t put too much pressure on your toothbrush, as it can cause gum damage. Don’t skimp out on brushing time, either. You should be brushing for a full two minutes and reaching all areas of your mouth with your toothbrush.
Replace Your Toothbrush When Necessary
Don’t wait until you see our Chicago dentist twice a year to replace your toothbrush. If you get sick, make sure to switch your toothbrush out to reduce germs. As a general rule of thumb, make sure to replace your toothbrush once every three months or when the bristles don’t lay the way that they should.
Make sure to schedule an appointment with our Chicago dentists so we can make sure that everything is as it should be.
