Dental Crowns in Chicago

What Are Dental Crowns?

Dental Crowns LakeviewDental crowns—also known as caps—are a form of dental restoration that uses tooth-colored coverings to completely cover your damaged or discolored tooth. If you’re suffering from severe tooth decay, a crown can be used to strengthen the weakened tooth and restore its look.

Crowns can be made from a variety of materials, including porcelain and metal, all working to bring back that beautiful smile you want.

Benefits of Porcelain Crowns

Porcelain crowns are used to help restore the strength, functionality, and appearance of your natural teeth. Crowns can be used to:

  • Beautify discolored or misshapen teeth
  • Restore broken or worn-down teeth
  • Stabilize dental bridges
  • Cover dental implants
  • Support decayed teeth

In our office for general dentistry in Chicago, IL, we can create temporary crowns for you to use while you wait for your permanent crowns to be designed. Dental crowns match the natural curvature of the teeth to provide a natural look, all while improving the stability of your remaining teeth.

Will Dental Crowns Work For Me?

If you are worried about your oral health and believe you can benefit from dental crowns, schedule a free consultation with the experts at Art of Modern Dentistry. We will take an extensive look at your teeth and discuss all possible restorative dentistry options.

Whether it’s dental fillings, root canal therapy, or porcelain crowns, the team at Art of Modern Dentistry will take great care of you and your smile.

The Crown Procedure

The process of preparing for your crown typically takes two visits to our office.

During your first visit, we will take x-rays of your teeth to determine if we need to take any pre-emptive measures before we apply the crown. Depending on the condition of the tooth, we can either build up the tooth or file it down so it will accept the crown properly. With our state-of-the-art dental technology, the entire process is comfortable and painless for most of our patients.

After reshaping the tooth, we will take an impression of it to send to the lab. This impression will instruct the dental lab on how to make the permanent crown, so it fits the contours of your mouth and is comfortable. Once the impressions are sent to the dental laboratory, they will be created to your mouth’s specifications in two to three weeks. We will place a temporary crown until the permanent one is ready.

At your next appointment, we will call you in to remove the temporary crown and ensure the fit and color of the permanent one matches the rest of your teeth. If it does match, we will cement it in place to protect your tooth and create a uniform look.

Taking Care of Your New Dental Crowns

Taking care of your newly-placed crowns is as simple as practicing good oral hygiene. Make sure you brush your teeth at least twice a day and floss at least once a day.

As time passes, crowns can become susceptible to wear and tear, causing cracking and breaking. For this reason, we recommend you avoid chewing ice and other hard food items.

Are There Any Risks?

Risks associated with dental crowns include sensitivity to hot and cold temperatures the first few days after the procedure. However, this will resolve itself quickly. Other risks include:

  • Bacterial decay
  • Infection
  • Chipped or cracked teeth
  • Bite Issues
  • Gum Irritation

If you experience any of these above issues, contact Art of Modern Dentistry right away. By maintaining proper dental hygiene, you can minimize the risks and ensure long-lasting results.

What Do Dental Crowns Cost in Chicago?

The cost of a dental crown procedure varies depending on your individual dental needs and the details of the procedure. On average, the cost of crowns in Chicago ranges anywhere from $800 to $3,000 per tooth.

At Art of Modern Dentistry, we work with our patients to help them afford the dental care they need when they need it. We work with most insurance companies, offer financing options, and partner with payment plan services to help make your care more affordable.

I was a little hesitant to come here after reading some reviews on Yelp but decided to give it a try after being reassured by Millie (who is really sweet and pleasant) over the phone, and I'm really happy I did. The office is beautiful, modern, and clean, something that really makes a difference for me going to the dentist. They were very prompt, I didn't have
to wait long to see the dentist.

I was blown away by the warm energy that radiated from the staff. They made sure that I understood everything and knew what the cost would be before we moved forward. Each person took the time to sit with me and explain the process. These people clearly love their job, their co-workers, and have a passion for assisting their clients with their dental health.
