Chicago Root Canals in Lakeview & South Loop

Endodontic therapy, otherwise known as a root canal, is used to help save damaged or diseased teeth. In some situations, an extraction may be used as an alternative to the root canal. However, if you move forward with this treatment, it will require removing the pulp and nerve from inside the tooth and replacing it with a solid material that will prevent infection.

Dark Tooth

In most situations, a dark tooth in an adult indicates an infected tooth. Normal blood flow within the tooth has likely been disrupted.

The common treatment for a dark tooth is a root canal. However, even though a tooth has effectively died doesn’t necessarily mean you need a root canal. In fact, the tooth can be restored to its natural color with the help of veneers, crowns and bonding. Whitening the tooth from the inside may also be used after a root canal.

Is a Root Canal Painful or Painless?

You will get different answers from everyone you ask. Your dentist will numb your mouth before the procedure, so you shouldn’t feel anything during. In fact, about 75 percent of patients claim they experience no discomfort after their root canal. For the 25 percent who do, this is typically caused by the infection that was removed, rather than the procedure itself. We will provide medication to help prevent infection and relieve any discomfort you do feel.

How Many Visits Are Needed?

The number of visits depends on the number of root canals required, how major the infection is and where the tooth is located. In general, most patients require one to three appointments. Because of the need for crowns, you may require one or two more appointments for this aspect.
At Art of Modern Dentistry , we understand your time is valuable, and we make every attempt to complete treatment plans as efficiently as possible.

Alternatives to a Root Canal

Once infection sets into your tooth, you often don’t have much choice. However, some people choose to delay treatment or undergo an extraction instead. If you want to save the tooth, though, your only choice is to undergo a root canal.
If you’re considering delaying treatment, the major issue is the infection within your tooth won’t go away on its own. This can result in even more serious problems. The infection will spread through your tooth and down into your jawbone. This can result in excruciating pain and could eventually require a hospital stay. In severe cases, death could also occur as a result.
While extraction may seem like a viable option, this is only a short-term solution. An extraction removes the source of the infection, but it will trigger shifting among your remaining teeth and could ultimately cause other dental problems.
To help protect your dental health as much as possible, it is often best to choose the root canal.

I was a little hesitant to come here after reading some reviews on Yelp but decided to give it a try after being reassured by Millie (who is really sweet and pleasant) over the phone, and I'm really happy I did. The office is beautiful, modern, and clean, something that really makes a difference for me going to the dentist. They were very prompt, I didn't have
to wait long to see the dentist.

I was blown away by the warm energy that radiated from the staff. They made sure that I understood everything and knew what the cost would be before we moved forward. Each person took the time to sit with me and explain the process. These people clearly love their job, their co-workers, and have a passion for assisting their clients with their dental health.
