Prevent Bad Gums

Posted on July 12th, 2013 by

Bacteria build up in your mouth can lead to periodontal disease, or gum disease, a serious infection of the gums. Without treating it promptly it can cause receding gum lines and tooth loss. Follow these tips to keep your gums, and whole mouth, healthy.
DO
BRUSH TWICE A DAY: This is one of the best things you can do to promote dental health. By using a good fluoride toothpaste and spending two full minutes of brushing all areas of your mouth, you’ll effectively remove food particles, plaque and bacteria.
FLOSS DAILY: Flossing removes plaque and bacteria from places your toothbrush can’t reach between your teeth and around your gum line. Use a wax dental floss to avoid shredding.
REGULAR DENTAL VISITS: Get your teeth professionally cleaned at your dentist’s office every six months. These professional cleanings remove hardened plaque that you cannot remove yourself with brushing and flossing. Your dentist can also examine teeth and gums for early signs of gum disease.
USE A TONGUE SCRAPER: Tongue scrapers do a great job removing bacteria from your tongue and freshening your breath. Scrape your tongue twice a day after brushing.
DO NOT
SMOKE CIGARETTES: Smoking is a known contributor to lung disease, heart disease and cancer. It is also one of the leading causes of gum disease – so try to kick the habit.
EAT TOO MUCH SUGAR: Foods with high amounts of sugar release harmful acids that damage teeth and gums. Keep a healthy diet and brush your teeth immediately after consuming any dessert treats.
BRUSH TOO HARD: Although brushing teeth is extremely important, brushing too vigorously can harm gums and cause gum recession.
Gum disease is incredibly harmful but also incredibly preventable. Getting in the habit of practicing good oral hygiene will keep your smile looking and feeling healthy.

I was a little hesitant to come here after reading some reviews on Yelp but decided to give it a try after being reassured by Millie (who is really sweet and pleasant) over the phone, and I'm really happy I did. The office is beautiful, modern, and clean, something that really makes a difference for me going to the dentist. They were very prompt, I didn't have
to wait long to see the dentist.

I was blown away by the warm energy that radiated from the staff. They made sure that I understood everything and knew what the cost would be before we moved forward. Each person took the time to sit with me and explain the process. These people clearly love their job, their co-workers, and have a passion for assisting their clients with their dental health.
