Teeth Whitening Options Available

Posted on October 6th, 2015 by

Could your pearly whites use a little more shine? Going online or even going to a drugstore can be enough to give you a headache because there are so many available options. It is necessary to learn about the teeth whitening options available on the market in order to help you make a better decision.
Toothpaste
Most varieties of toothpaste on the market include a mild abrasive, and will therefore remove surface stains. However, those that claim to whiten your smile contain chemical agents or polishers that can provide a more effective stain removal. These contain hydrogen peroxide or carbamide peroxide, which can lighten the dark color of the tooth. They can usually lighten up to one shade.
Strips/Gels
Whitening gels are transparent and contain peroxide. They come with a tiny brush to apply the gel directly to the tooth surface. You will want to read the directions thoroughly before starting; results will be seen in a few days.
Whitening strips are thin and considered invisible. They are coated with a gel that is peroxide-based. They should be worn once a day for 30 minutes. You will usually have to use the product for two or more weeks to get the full effect, and results can take a few days.
Rinses
Rinsing whiteners are the newest products available to whiten teeth at home. They are meant to be used instead of regular mouthwashes and can reduce plaque, gum disease and freshen your breath. However, you’ll have to wait up to 12 weeks to see full results. Just swish the required amount around in your mouth for a full minute and spit it out. This method will not be as effective as other options.
Tray-Based Whiteners
Tray-based systems can be found in your dentist’s office as well as over the counter. This whitening system includes a mouth guard-type of tray with a solution of bleach and peroxide to fill the tray. You’ll wear the tray for a longer period of time, such as all night or a few hours each day; this should be done for up to four weeks.
Professional Whitening
Most people agree that a professional whitening at your dental office is most effective, because your dentist has the professional equipment to give you great results while ensuring you stay safe and healthy during the procedure. Geneva Malagutti
I was a little hesitant to come here after reading some reviews on Yelp but decided to give it a try after being reassured by Millie (who is really sweet and pleasant) over the phone, and I'm really happy I did. The office is beautiful, modern, and clean, something that really makes a difference for me going to the dentist. They were very prompt, I didn't have
to wait long to see the dentist.

Ashton McLean-Hall
I was blown away by the warm energy that radiated from the staff. They made sure that I understood everything and knew what the cost would be before we moved forward. Each person took the time to sit with me and explain the process. These people clearly love their job, their co-workers, and have a passion for assisting their clients with their dental health.
