Better Oral Health in 2016
The transition into the new year is a time for all of us to consider ways we can improve our overall health and happiness in life. If you have had issues with your smile in the past, it may be time to consider taking steps to improve your oral health. Here are some ways you can do it:
Brush and floss more (and better!). If you don’t already, you should brush your teeth at least twice a day, and floss at least once a day. Make sure your toothbrush is soft-bristled and the appropriate size. Brush gently at a 45-degree angle for the most effective bacteria removal. Replace your toothbrush every three to four months and after you are sick.
Consider aesthetic improvements. Do you cringe every time you smile at yourself in the mirror? Improve your confidence in your smile with cosmetic dentistry services. Through these services you can make your teeth whiter, straighter and less crowded, as well as fix cracked, chipped or decaying teeth.
Try a healthier diet. Everything you eat has an effect on the condition of your teeth and gums. A diet that is full of sugar and carbohydrate-filled food and drinks increases the chance for cavities, tooth decay and gingivitis. Drink plenty of water, especially after eating, as it helps wash away food particles.
Pay more visits to your dentist! You should be seeing your dentist every six months. Routine checkups and cleanings are the best way to ensure your mouth stays healthy and free from disease. Not only do we have the tools to thoroughly clean your teeth, we also have the ability to find disease or decay and treat it before it worsens.
Haven’t seen your dentist in a while? Start off the new year right by scheduling an appointment at Art of Modern Dentistry; we have two convenient offices in the South Loop (312-922-1898) and Lakeview (773-935-3600).
