What’s Your New Year’s Resolution?
Why not make it a happier, healthier smile? You might be looking to get in shape this year, be more financially successful, or travel more… but why not make one of your New Year’s resolutions better oral health? It’s a pretty easy goal to attain, and your mouth will thank you for making the effort. Below are our tips for making your mouth healthier in 2017.
Healthy Diet
If you need tips for a healthy diet, check out our previous blog on the healthiest foods of 2017. Make a point to avoid super sugary foods that can eat away at enamel and cause tooth decay, and veer more toward fruits, high-fiber vegetables, and those foods that are high in calcium like dairy. Your diet has a HUGE impact on your oral health, so this should really be priority number one. (Not to mention this will help with any 2017 weight loss goals)
Brush Up On Your Brushing Habits
How often do you brush? If you’re brushing less than twice per day, you’re doing it wrong! We recommend brushing twice daily—once in the morning and once at night. It’s not a bad idea to brush after meals as well to avoid buildup of plaque on your teeth. Revise how you’re brushing as well. How much time do you spend brushing your teeth? You should be brushing for at least two minutes.
Get Flossy
If you don’t floss, 2017 is the time to start. Flossing before you brush can get the food particles and plaque out between your teeth so that you can brush them away afterwards. Flossing is something far too many Americans do not do. Without flossing, you are subjecting yourself to a higher risk of periodontal disease and tooth decay.
See A Dentist
When was the last time you visited the dentist? Make 2017 the year of regular dental checkups. You should see a dentist about every 6 months. A dentist appointment will not only give you a more thorough cleaning, it will also find and fix any potential problems with your mouth and teeth.
