Healthy Foods to Improve Oral Health

Posted on May 29th, 2013 by

Eating the right foods can be just as important to the health of your teeth and gums as brushing and flossing. The following are foods that boost oral health:

1. Green tea: Green tea offers antioxidant compounds that prevent plaque from accumulating which reduces risk of cavities and bad breath. Some also contain fluoride that can prevent tooth decay.
2. Dairy products: Milk and yogurt are low in acidity and sugar which reduce risk of tooth decay or erosion. Milk also contains calcium, which fortifies teeth and bones.
3. Cheese: Cheese is high in phosphate and calcium, promoting healthy teeth. It also balances the pH in your mouth, produces more saliva and kills bacteria.
4. Fruit: Whole, raw fruits keep down plaque and massages gums. Without fruits rich in Vitamin C, gums may become sensitive and more susceptible to gum disease.
5.Vegetables:Broccoli, carrots, sweet potato and pumpkins are rich in Vitamin A from which tooth enamel forms. Eating them raw cleans teeth and massages gums.
6. Onions: Onions are rich in powerful anti-bacterial sulphur compounds, which kill bacteria that harms teeth and gums.
7. Celery: Eating celery raw cleans teeth, massages gums, and produces more saliva, neutralizing bacteria.
8. Sesame seeds: Sesame seeds, in bread and rolls, dissolve plaque and build enamel.
9. Proteins: Beef, chickens, egg and turkey are rich in phosphorous, which combines with calcium produces teeth and bones.
10. Water: Rinsing with water cleans your mouth so your saliva can nourish teeth, hydrate gums, and wash away food particles that create plaque.

Be sure to eat well to improve overall oral health.

I was a little hesitant to come here after reading some reviews on Yelp but decided to give it a try after being reassured by Millie (who is really sweet and pleasant) over the phone, and I'm really happy I did. The office is beautiful, modern, and clean, something that really makes a difference for me going to the dentist. They were very prompt, I didn't have
to wait long to see the dentist.

I've been a Art of Modern Dentistry patient for almost a decade at both the South Loop and Lincoln Park locations. Currently I go to the LP office and have to say these are the bets dental pros in Chicago. From the hygienists, to the doctors, to the office staff everyone is professional, nice, and wonderful at their job.

I was blown away by the warm energy that radiated from the staff. They made sure that I understood everything and knew what the cost would be before we moved forward. Each person took the time to sit with me and explain the process. These people clearly love their job, their co-workers, and have a passion for assisting their clients with their dental health.
