National Children's Dental Health Month
Whether you realize it or not, oral health is an important facet of overall health. Every February, our dentists in Chicago enjoy participating in National Children’s Dental Health Month to help encourage healthy oral health habits in kids by ensuring educated professionals, healthcare providers, caretakers, teacher and more are aware of proper habits.
The earlier you start to emphasize oral health with your kids, the stronger their habits will become! The American Dental Association notes this year’s campaign slogan as “brush and clean in between to build a healthy smile.” Keep these tips in mind when talking to your kids about oral health!
Be a Good Role Model
Leading by example is one of the most important things that you can do as an adult. This applies to all areas, including oral health. Make brushing and flossing part of your daily routine and encourage your kids to get excited about it rather than seeing it as something they need to do. Making it a family activity can also help your kids feel like they aren’t alone.
Show Them the Ropes
Your kids won’t know the proper brushing and flossing techniques on their own. Take the time to show them the right brushing motions, the proper amount of toothpaste to use, how long to brush, etc.
