Dental Implants vs. Dentures – Which is Right for You?

Posted on August 25th, 2020 by

Nowadays, no one has to suffer through life with missing teeth. Fortunately, there are several options to choose from when it comes to repairing your smile – dental implants and dentures being the most common choices. Today, we will provide some facts about both dentures and dental implants in Chicago, allowing you to make a more informed decision about which solution might be right for you.

Dentures – Chicago

If your jaw or gums are weak or unhealthy, dentures maybe your best option. Additionally, dentures cost less than dental implants and the process for getting them is non-invasive – so you won’t need to be anesthetized – as you would have implants placed. Dentures are also easy to repair if they incur any damage.

Despite these advantages, you may dislike the fact that without adhesive, dentures can slip out when you eat, they are not as comfortable or stable as dental implants, and they can cause your gums to become sore. Dentures can also sometimes affect speech or your sense of taste, and they will need to be removed regularly for cleaning.

Dental Implants – Chicago

Although dental implants cost more than dentures, mainly due to the additional costs that are incurred with surgery, as well as the additional expertise required, they do have a few decided advantages. Studies have shown implants are expected to last for 20 years or more, and they are also more natural-looking than dentures. Additionally, you can simply brush them as you would your natural teeth, and implants help to maintain the density and strength of your jawbone.

If you decide on dental implants in Chicago, and you don’t have a sufficient amount of bone, additional grafting procedures might be necessary before you can get dental implants. This means that implants might not be an option for everyone.

Making the Right Decision

The main differences between dentures and implants are cost and longevity. However, it is important to consider all the advantages and disadvantages of each option to determine which solution will work best for you. The best way to understand how each of these will affect your overall health, your smile, and your self-esteem, is to speak directly with a knowledgeable and experienced dentist before making a final decision.

I was a little hesitant to come here after reading some reviews on Yelp but decided to give it a try after being reassured by Millie (who is really sweet and pleasant) over the phone, and I'm really happy I did. The office is beautiful, modern, and clean, something that really makes a difference for me going to the dentist. They were very prompt, I didn't have
to wait long to see the dentist.

I was blown away by the warm energy that radiated from the staff. They made sure that I understood everything and knew what the cost would be before we moved forward. Each person took the time to sit with me and explain the process. These people clearly love their job, their co-workers, and have a passion for assisting their clients with their dental health.
