Answering Your Most-Asked Veneers Questions

Few cosmetic dental procedures are as in-demand as porcelain veneers. People everywhere are attracted to the beautiful, dramatic before-and-after photos splashed across the web. Originally designed for movie stars, dental veneers have become less and less exclusive as technology has advanced and pricing has declined. We get many inquiries from patients who are looking into this exciting cosmetic procedure. Today we are offering fast answers to some of the most common questions we receive about veneers.

How Many Veneers Do I Need?

The number of veneers needed is directly correlated with the extent of the changes you want to make. Some individuals may be able to satisfy their aesthetic goals with a single veneer added to one problem tooth; others will want six or more on their top row of teeth for more pronounced results. It’s important to consult with your dentist about your smile goals for an expert recommendation. Our Loop dentist in Chicago can help you understand your options during a free veneer consultation.

Do Dental Veneers Stain?

All types of dental veneers are more stain-resistant than natural teeth. If stain-resistance is one of your primary concerns with getting veneers, you may want to choose porcelain veneers over veneers made with resin. Porcelain has been shown to be more stain-resistant, keeping the hue you chose with your dentist for a greater length of time. As with your natural teeth, you will still want to be somewhat careful with substances known to stain teeth such as coffee, red wine, tobacco, and soda.

Do Dental Veneers Hurt?

Unfortunately, most people who choose to move forward with veneers are likely to experience some discomfort, if not pain. During the procedure, your dentist will do everything possible to help you manage the sensations including using an anesthetic. You may leave the office feeling numb following your procedure and adjusting to your new veneers will take some time. Your dentist will likely recommend an over-the-counter pain reliever for after sensation has returned. Eating soft foods for a period after getting veneers and avoiding clenching your teeth can help minimize the discomfort until your mouth fully adjusts.

Are Dental Veneers Permanent?

For patients who take exceptionally good care of their teeth, dental veneers are permanent fixtures that will never need replacing. However, like your natural teeth, porcelain veneers are not impervious to damage. Over time, one or more veneers may need to be replaced to maintain the beauty of your smile. The decision to move forward with dental veneers is irreversible. After your natural teeth have been altered to accommodate veneers, you will no longer be able to go without them.

I was a little hesitant to come here after reading some reviews on Yelp but decided to give it a try after being reassured by Millie (who is really sweet and pleasant) over the phone, and I'm really happy I did. The office is beautiful, modern, and clean, something that really makes a difference for me going to the dentist. They were very prompt, I didn't have
to wait long to see the dentist.

I was blown away by the warm energy that radiated from the staff. They made sure that I understood everything and knew what the cost would be before we moved forward. Each person took the time to sit with me and explain the process. These people clearly love their job, their co-workers, and have a passion for assisting their clients with their dental health.
